Going Wireless

Wired magazine gave Pittsburgh credit for its geekiness recently. I think it had to do something with our hair or our lack of social graces, or perhaps because we get two hours of free wireless downtown. I’m not sure how much the wireless is used. I have heard that it doesn’t really reach into buildings.

I hope to see more bottom up efforts to build wireless networks like this one in Toronto.

My limited experience, with my Powerbook, is that it doesn’t reach into the mezzanine at Heinz Hall. that may seem like a strange place to want wireless access, but actually it would be lovely to be online during intermissions and right after a symphony performance, when the music is still in your ears.
