Today’s message comes from both old and new books.

Banquet: Pork, mechanically separated turkey, water, soy protein concentrate, contains 2% or less of beef, BHA, BHT, citric acid, flavorings, salt, sodium diacetate, sodium lactate, soy lecithing, sugar. Contains: soy.

Boca: Water, textured soy protein, soy protein isolate, corn oil, wheat gluten, contains less than 2% of the following methyl cellulose, potato starch, olive oil, salt, cultured whey (from milk)*, hydrolyzed protein (corn and soy) and hydrolyzed wheat gluten, spices, caramel color, dextrose, natural flavor (non-meat), brown sugar, washed raw sugar, autolyzed yeast extract, garlic powder, disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate, gum arabic, sugar, onion powder, browned in corn oil.

*Adds a negligible amount of cholesterol.

Otto von Bismarck said “The less people know how sausages and laws are made, the better they’ll sleep at night.” This must be why I’ve had insomnia lately. Did you know the Boca sausages are made with NutriSoy, which has a registered trademark? How long before we get NutriPork, the genetically modified and patent protected pig? Or is that already the case.

As I typed up the ingredients, Liz told me about this post in Boing Boing about Dragon Sausages having to be renamed Dragon Pork Sausages. Just another reason to stay up at night.
