I’m having a blast reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. We are corn walking, corn fueled by petroleum, and shipped through hundreds of different industrialized channels.

There is a different way of course. Pollan makes it clear that that way is not necessarily “certified organic.” Big organic farms and distribution networks might not use pesticides or antibiotics, but they are far from being part of sustainable, local, inter-related, symbiotic systems.

I hope to write more about The Omnivore’s Dilemma, wonderful concepts such as the Middle Landscape, interesting facts such as why lettuce pickers wear blue band aids, and wonderful people such as Joel Salatin.
